Welcome to the website for DM Dance Centre in Southampton. If you want to get fit, have fun and make new friends you have come to the right place! We offer a range of different dance classes and one-2-one sessions in our school for you to have a go at anything from Ballroom to Zumba! Please take a look round the site to see our timetable, events and dance holidays! All our classes are for beginners, intermediates and advanced dancers so there is something for everyone, plus we cater for Adults and Children. DM Dance Centre is this year celebrating 35 years as a business, so why not join the thousands of people who have benefited from their expertise!

Congratulations! You have made the decision to learn to dance, or perhaps you know some steps and want to expand your repertoire or improve your style and technique. Don't be nervous; you have made a great decision. Dancing is a skill you can enjoy your entire life. It is great exercise and a healthy way to relax after a stressful day at work. Dancing is fun for singles and couples. You can learn to dance even if you don't have a partner.We offer a range of classes in the school for you to have a go at. All our classes are ongoing and are for beginners, intermediates and advanced dancers, so there is something for everyone. If you cannot commit to a class and have difficulty making the times on our timetable or feel that you could do with a little more help a one-2-one lesson with one of our fully qualified teachers is an excellent way to accelerate the learning process. You can book lessons at your convenience to fit in with your busy schedule and can have them as frequently as you like. Ready Steady DanceIf your child is aged between 3 and 8 then they will love our Ready Steady Dance Class on a Saturday morning between 9.30-10.15am. We do a bit of everything including, ballroom and latin, cheerleading and freestyle and the children work towards rosettes that they take every three months. They are then awarded a certificate and a sash for them to collect their rosettes on. All our classes are on a pay as you go scheme so you dont have to sign up in advance.Saturday ClassesOur Saturday programme for children over 8 is a great way to learn a wide range of different dance styles. From 10.15 - 3.00pm we offer several different classes, (see timetable for more information), including Salsa, Ballroom, Latin, Freestyle, Musical Theatre and Street/Hip Hop. You can do as many or as little as you like so you can come to one class or all of them! And the more you come to the less you pay for each session. In these classes we also work towards medal tests every three months, when the child is awarded a medal and certificate. All our classes are on a pay as you go scheme so you dont have to sign up in advance.Zumbatomic Kids love to crank up the music, shake, wiggle and have a blast with their friends. So why not get fit while they're at it? Zumbatomic is the answer! Children attending a class will get to learn all the latin and hip hop rhythms that are introduced in the Zumba programme as well as playing games, all the while giving your child a new skill, confidence and a sense of achievement. Ballroom & Latin ClassesMade popular of late by the successful TV series, Strictly Come Dancing. Ballroom and Latin can be danced at weddings or dinner dances. In our classes we incorporate 8 different dance styles. The ballroom dances are waltz, quickstep, foxtrot and tango. The latin dances are rumba, samba, cha cha and jive. Zumba Zumba is a combination of hypnotic Latin Rhythms and easy to follow moves to create a fun and addictive workout, that will help with coordination and fitness. Youll love this fun way to get fit and healthy. Learn to dance for your weddingCongratulations on your upcoming wedding! You want every detail of your wedding to be perfect, so why not make you first dance as husband and wife memorable? Our expert instructors have been teaching couples to dance for their weddings for many years. We will make this aspect of your wedding planning something fun you can do together. After the wedding is over and you've settled into married life, dancing together will be something you can enjoy together for the rest of your lives! Everyone would love to know how to dance, but most people are afraid of looking awkward. Don't be nervous; anyone can learn to dance and it's easier than you think! We welcome gay and lesbian couples and couples from all faiths.A range of dance styles are available, from a traditional Wedding Waltz, classic Ballroom, Salsa, Merengue, Swing, Tango, Rock 'n' Roll etc. The lessons are entirely individually tailored to your personal preferences and requirements. You choose the music you would like to dance to and we will teach you the appropriate dance.Hen Do'sWhy not do something that everyone can enjoy no matter what age as part of your hen do? About DM Dance Centre

The DM Dance Centre has been established for over 30 years under the name of Diment Macdonald Dance Centre under the direction of Philip and Christine Diment. Philip is a past president, examiner and director of the International Dance Teachers Association. Christine is an established championship adjudicator in Freestyle and is also the secretary of the South East Area IDTA. Our studio in Spring Crescent, Portswood has been a popular dance school since the 1930s. It has been extensively modernised but with lots of character enhancing features retained from the original building. It now has a licensed bar and dance accessory store.Our fully qualified team of dedicated professionals are ready and waiting to welcome you into our family of enthusiastic dancers.

About our Staff

Philip Diment: After a successful competitive career in Ballroom and Latin American from the age of 8, dancing at the top levels from juvenille to professional Philip qualified as a dance teacher in 1973 and has been a full time dance teacher since 1977. He has fulfilled his life time ambition of being president of the IDTA one of the largest dance teachers organizations in the world. He has travelled extensively in this country and abroad as an examiner and is an internationally recognised adjudicator. Philip also trains other professionals for their teaching qualifications. Christine Diment: Started dancing at the age of 3 in ballet and progressed through to the Ballroom and Latin field becoming an accomplished competitor and danced with Philip as a professional. Christine qualified as a dance teacher in 1975 and has been a full time dance teacher since 1978. Christine is a Fellow in Freestyle and trains many other professionals for their teaching qualifications. She is a championship adjudicator in Freestyle. Hayley Diment: Started dancing at the age of 2 in freestyle and has competed in Freestyle, Ballroom and Latin. She reached Championship level in Freestyle winning many titles including the title of All England Champion and danced competitively to Pre-Championship level in Ballroom and Latin. Hayley qualified as a dance teacher in 2002. She is an International Championship Adjudicator in Freestyle and has judged major competitions such as the Norwegian, British and Irish Masters Championships. Frequently Asked Dance Questions:What should I wear for dancing?Wear something that you are comfortable in. We have no dress code for our classes, we do however recommend no trainers if you are dancing in ballroom, latin or salsa classes and for ladies to wear a small heel. If you are coming to a street or freestyle class then trainers are advised.Am I too old or too young to learn to dance?We cater for all ages and styles of dance from ages 3 to 100! There is something for everyone on our class timetable. Just take a look at our suitable for category on our class timetable.What styles of dance do you do?We teach a wide range of styles in the school some of which may not have a class dedicated to them, if there is a style of dance that you have always wanted to do then ask a member of staff and we may able to help you in a one-2-one session.Frequently Asked Wedding Questions:My Fiancé And I Have Never Danced Before. How Long Will It Take To Learn To Dance?Most couples can learn to dance for their first dance in three to five lessons. If you would like a very simple first dance, you may need only one or two lessons. However, it is often hard for couples to find time to practice together, and so a few more lessons may make you feel more comfortable dancing together. If you would like to be able to dance some of the other popular dances that will be played by the band or DJ, you may want to take additional lessons to learn these dances as well. Some couples find that the lessons are so much fun, they decide to learn other dances.We Haven't Chosen A Song. What Should We Do?We have a list of popular songs for your first dance, and we can also advise you if you have any questions. If you have several choices, bring all of them to your first lesson, and we can tell you which song we think would be the most appropriate. Remember, your song should be meaningful to you and not necessarily be what everyone else has chosen. So if you would like to do a passionate Tango, we can show you how.We Waited Until The Last Minute. Can You Help Us?Of course we can!! We can still make you look great. Don't hesitate to call, and we will fit you in for one or two lessons. You'll be amazed at how polished you will look after only one lesson.What Should We Wear To Our Lessons?Wear clothing you are comfortable in for your lessons. Ladies should wear something similar to the shoe you will be wearing for your wedding. Try to find a shoe with a similar heel height and style. Flip flops and mules are not a good choice for lessons. Men should wear a dress shoe with a leather sole rather than running shoes that tend to stick on the floor.Where Can I buy a pair of Wedding Dance Shoes?We sell a range of specially designed wedding shoes that have a sole suitable for dancing in these are produced by Supadance whose director was trained by none other than Jimmy Choo himself so they are beautifully crafted. We also sell a full range of dance shoes so you will be spoilt for choice.Can My Parents Come And Learn To Dance?Many parents of the bride or groom decide to take a few lessons so they will feel more comfortable dancing at the reception. We can also arrange lessons for the father/daughter dance and the mother/son dance. In fact, we can teach everyone in the wedding party to dance. Many brides find the lessons with their father to be a special and emotional time together before the wedding. Please call if you have any special requests or concerns. Directions:

Directions to find the DM Dance Centre, 10 Spring Cres, Portswood, Southampton.From M3 go straight on to M27 towards Portsmouth. Immediately leave Motorway (Junction 5) sign posted Southampton & Airport. At roundabout take 4th exit A335. At 2nd traffic lights bare left in to Thomas Lewis Way. At 5th traffic lights turn right,go up a small hill to traffic lights, turn right in to Portswood Road. Spring Cres is the 1st turning on the right.As you turn in to Spring Cres you will see our sign on the right. There is a small car park in front but it is probably better to park in the road. There is a large White House at the front and the studio is at the back. Philip Christine & their Staff look forward to greeting you all.
